For the project "Weaving Dreams" at the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts, I collaborated with composer Minxuan Xie to create and perform audio-reactive visuals. The performance blended Kunqu, electronic music, ethnic instruments, and traditional orchestral elements, symbolizing the intricate weave of life. Life is like weaving; mountains and rivers form a scroll, and the ups and downs of human existence are trivial.

What did I do

  • Four Visual Narratives. I divided the music into four scenes, each representing different emotions and narratives as envisioned by Minxuan. Each stage of the music featured a distinct visual style, enhancing the storytelling and emotional journey.

  • Because the music combines traditional Chinese instruments and electronic music, I was heavily inspired by traditional Chinese ink paintings of landscapes. By using code-based generative technology to achieve the similar visuals, I believe I was able to effectively convey the composer's intentions.
